| The Good Shepherd marks venerable Robert De Niro's long-awaited sophomore outing in the director's chair following his well-received 1993 coming-of-ager, A Bronx Tale. The pic, executive produced by Francis Ford Coppola, embodies an epic history of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. Its narrative will trace the 40-year career of apocryphal Edward Wilson (Matt Damon), loosely based on the real-life CIA founder James Jesus Angleton. The story follows Wilson's life, from the CIA establishment over the trajectory of the Cold War, and explores the emotional toll that his job takes on his family. Angelina Jolie co-stars as Wilson's wife; Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) penned the script. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide |
